Querida Sofia,
Enquanto estive no Huambo, passei quatro noites no Hotel Ekuikui I. E se tiver de voltar ao Huambo, é lá onde ficarei de novo. Porquê?
Dear Sophie,
While I was in Huambo, I stayed at the Hotel Ekuikui I. And if I ever go back, that is the place where I will stay at. Why?
1 - Primeiro, adorei a facilidade com a qual encontrei o hotel. Pesquisei no google "Hotel no Huambo" e esta foi a primeira opção. Gostei do site, como está simples, bem organizado e com imagens óptimas. Para não me deixar enganar, vi a página do hotel no Trip Advisor e também tinha muito boa reputação, de acordo com o comentário de 13 utilizadores.
First of all, I liked how easy it was to find the hotel. I googled "Hotel in Huambo" and this one was my first option. I liked the website, as it is very clean and organised. The photographs are also stunning. I did not want that to fool me, to I check its page on Trip Advisor and 13 reviews allowed me to check it had a very good reputation.
2 - Foi fácil reservar. Nem peguei no telefone. Enviei um email no contacto geral e obtive resposta em muito pouco tempo. E tive respostas a todas as minhas dúvidas, sempre de maneira célere. Quando me dizem que em Angola, não se faz nada por email e é sempre tudo muito lento, já tenho razões de revirar os olhos.
It was so easy to book! I did not even grab my phone. I sent an email and I quickly got an answer. I also got a reply to all my questions and doubts really promptly. Now I know that I will thoroughly roll my eyes when I'll hear people say there is nothing you can do online here. It's a lie and/or inaccurate generalisation!
3 - Foram buscar-me ao aeroporto. Não tinha quem me apanhasse no aeroporto à hora na qual cheguei ao Huambo, então o hotel organizou o transfer do aeroporto para o Hotel. Estavam à porta do aeroporto assim que cheguei e não tive de ficar à espera. O site diz que usam Audi Q7, mas andei numa carrinha branca do hotel. Pacífico: o trajeto durou cinco minutos e tive a oportunidade de contar 20 e tal motorizadas nesse curto espaço de tempo.
I was fetched at the airport. I didn't have anyone to drive me from the airport to the hotel at the precise moment I landed, so the hotel organised the transfer from airport to hotel. They were at the airport's door as soon as I landed and I did not have to wait. The website says they use the Audi Q7 type of car, but I got to go in a white van. It was okay: the transfer lasted around five minutes yet I got to count about 20 motorbikes in the meantime.
4 - O quarto estava limpo quando cheguei: casa de banho a brilhar e lençois brancos lavadinhos. Gostei!
The room was clean when I got there. The bathroom was shining and the white sheets were freshly clean. I like that!
5 - Tive um problema com água quente. Tive de chamar uma senhora da limpeza e a recepção, demoraram um pouco a ver a situação no quarto, mas assim que viram ficou resolvido: era preciso deixar a água correr uns cinco minutos até sair água quente. Partiu-me o coração gastar tanta água para ter água quente - sou ANTI-duches e banhos longos - mas teve de ser.
I had a problem with the hot water. I had to call a housekeeper and the reception to get it fixed, they tardied a bit, but then they solved the situation. I had to run the water for about 5 minutes before water turned hot. It broke my heart to spill so much water - I hate people who take long showers or baths, but there was no other solution.
6 - Tinha uma garrafa de 1,5L de água no meu mini bar, gratuita. Senão, estava vazio, nem uma latinha de ginguba com sal para me entreter.
I had a 1.5L water bottle in my mini bar. It was complementary. Notwithstanding, it was empty, I did not even have salted peanuts for my snack...
7 - Senti-me completamente segura dentro do hotel, tanto nas entradas e saídas, assim como em deixar as minhas coisas durante o dia enquanto estava a passear. Acho importante mencionar isto, antes que pensem que em Angola todo o mundo só quer roubar os turistas. De novo, não é verdade.
I felt completely safe around the hotel, when I got in or outside the building, and leaving my things around when I was out sightseeing. I felt that it is important to mention this before people also generalise and say everybody in Angola is a potential thief. Again: not true!
Por todos estes pequenos detalhes, voltarei ao Ekuikui I quando estiver no Huambo, pois pelo que ouvi dizer, não há de momento melhor hotel no Huambo.
For these reasons, I will go back to Ekuikui I when in Huambo. As I have heard, there is not a better hotel there yet.
